Summer is my favorite time of the year. I always picture road trips, pool time, fresh fruit salad and active time with the girls. With so much fun and running around, I find myself being really lax with self-care. It’s interesting, as a mom, I find that I spend a ton of time and energy making sure the kids have sunscreen, enough snacks, and drinks but more often than not, I treat myself as an after thought. After making some adjustments and finding the things that work for me, I’m sharing some tips for summer self-care!
1. Stay hydrated.
First, step your hydration game and your body will thank you. Dehydration often disguises itself as fatigue, so if you know you are getting rest but still feel blah, switch up your hydration routine. It’s taken me a long time to get in the habit but when I know I’m going to be in the sun or in the pool on a warm day, I always keep an ice cold drink nearby. Lately, vitaminwater has been in rotation in our house. We usually have several different flavors but I usually reach for PowerC. When the kids need some quick hydration after a long day of swimming, vitaminwater with its electrolytes helps them get back on track.
2. Protection from the Sun
Another habit I’ve gotten into is buying hats and slathering on sunscreen before going out into the sun. When I was younger I was super lax on doing this but now with more patience and education, I’m reminded that I really need to take care of my skin. Hydration is so important for wellness on the inside but your skin also needs protection and care.
3. Eat Right!
It’s so easy to reach for burgers and ice cream during the summer bbq’s. When we host I make sure there are a ton water-rich veggies like cucumbers, watermelon, tomatoes, bell peppers, and salad as options to eats. For some sweetness, I try to keep cut up strawberry, raspberries, pears, oranges, and pineapple in the fridge or on shaded tables for everyone to easily access. We also keep a small fridge in our outdoor kitchen stocked with drinks like vitaminwater for friends and family to stay hydrated!
4. Mental health
I find myself going into summer with high expectations and when we don’t hit all our summer bucket list items, sometimes I can start to feel down. If I ever get the summer blues I try to remember that in a month or even a year my worries and stresses probably won’t matter. It helps to take a shower, get dressed, work on drinking fluids to get hydrated and head out into the sunshine with my family.

Protip: Anyone who reads this blog knows of my love for Target. You can find vitaminwater NOT with the soda but with the water brands on a side aisle!
