Let’s start out 2017 with a dramatic before and after shall we? I swore I was never going to go through a kitchen renovation again. Cooking out of the living with a toaster oven was an incredibly stressful experience. When we purchased this new home, I knew I wasn’t going to be able to live with the dark cave like kitchen. It’s hard to see in the photo but the cabinets had a thick layer of grease on them and they were banged up pretty badly. The sink wasn’t centered on the window. There was a horrible drop ceiling that made the room feel really dark and closed in. We decided we needed to create a bright white minimalist kitchen that we would want to cook in!
Buying for teens is hard. Inevitably I hear things like iPhone, Playstation, camera, etc when I ask a teen in my life what they want for Christmas. But what if your budget isn’t that big or someone else is already handling the big ticket items? I’ve gathered what I think are several gratifying gifts for teen girls. They include some really cute fashion items, a boredom buster, and an item to fill that sweet tooth!
I hope everyone had a really good Thanksgiving. We spent it at home with a few last minute guests and it was really nice. P had the entire week off of work so we initially thought we would travel, but then decided to just stay home and work on a few things…. [Read more…]

Teen boys can be notoriously difficult to shop for. My nephew just turned 16 and has plenty of electronics and video games. I challenged myself to find things for him that weren’t electronics but that were fun and cool enough to use on a daily basis. Below are my finds!
I’ve been feeling very uneasy about the future ever since the election results came in. It was totally throwing me off and when I woke up a very foggy morning I realized that I really needed to take care of myself- body and soul. Here are some tips for self care that I try to practice when I need a pick me up.
1. Surround yourself with good people
Coffee meets ups with a good friend are on my weekly list of to dos. Even if it’s just short time, it’s always so nice to touch base and commiserate. It also helps to get out of the house, which is much needed when all I want to do is stay in bed.
I didn’t quite feel up to exercising after the election but by Thursday, I knew I needed to. It felt so good to blast some music and just move. Walks in the sunshine are my second favorite physical way to practice self care.
3. Get some perspective…
I try to imagine what things will look like 1 year, 5 years or even 10 years from now. Will my worries matter? What else could I be spending that same energy on?
4. …and then do something kind.
I just put together an evite for a holiday party in which we all bring new pajamas to donate to local teen shelters. This Christmas I’ll have a safe and warm home but there are so many who don’t. Consider donating your time, funds or much needed items to an organization that could use it this holiday season.
5. Get a hug or give a hug
I know it sounds so cheesy but hugs make me feel so much better. My favorite thing to do is to ask my girls for a huge which they happily reciprocate. Try it!
