Do you ever have those nights where you just don’t know what to do for dinner? That happens often around here when I forget to meal plan. Moveable Feast is a local company that offers food truck events and it’s one of our go-to choices when neither of us feel like cooking. Moveable Feast has grown from just a simple gathering of food trucks to a huge community gathering. It’s been fun seeing what new trucks are serving and seeing friends and neighbors eating dinner too.
MF has added music, games for kids, lighting and in the colder months they bring out heat lamps. They are always located in a large parking lot (usually a VTA location) that has plenty of parking. Red buckets are put out to for guests to sit on, but I would recommend bringing your own folding chairs.
Here are a few of our favorite trucks!
We discovered Sam’s Chowder House years ago while on a day trip to Carmel. When I found out they had a food truck I stalked them on twitter until they came close to San Jose. Sam’s is now a regular truck that Moveable Feast features. In addition to their delicious chowder, our favorites are the fish and chips and the mango salsa fish taco featured above.
Capelo’s BBQ (formerly Hill Country BBQ)
When I traveled in the South for work I was introduced to some of the most delicious BBQ. I made it my mission to find something that was similar in the Bay Area and I’m happy to say Capelo’s BBQ comes very close. Their brisket is a typical dinner or breakfast around these parts. Brisket paired with their corn salad or with an egg is a perfect meal.
Gold Rush Eatery
Their garlic tater tots are a really delicious side dish although we only indulged a few times a year. The tots are perfectly seasoned and fried. Gold Rush brews their own root beer which is delicious as is their ravioli’s which are occasionally on the menu. I also like their mushroom chicken sandwich (hold the bread) as a protein-rich meal.
When my friend B came to town I dragged her to Moveable Feast and made her get a cupcake. She declared them the best she has ever tasted. Fairy Cakes makes one of the moistest cupcakes I have ever tasted in my life. My favorites are the classic vanilla and the birthday (golden vanilla cake with chocolate ganache frosting) while P likes their cheesecake and caramel flavors. Protip: Fair Cakes gives away free mini cupcakes to kids that come to their truck, plus they always have a pitcher of ice cold milk out for free!
