Recently, I was invited to Dream Dinners Camden to review experience the process of prepping dinners to freeze to use at a later date. Dream Dinners is located off of Camden and Union Ave in San Jose, California. Dream Dinners is a food service that allows customers to pre-order and prep a whole month of meals and then take home to cook. Dream Dinner provides the recipes and fresh ingredients for their customers. For those that don’t want to prep the meals themselves, Dream Dinner will do that for an additional fee.
Since this was a private blogger event, this location had some chocolate and recipes pre-made out on display for tasting. We tasted the Chicken Paella (delicious), Pork Wraps and the Tomato and Gouda soup (also delicious). Cubbies held our personal belongings and the fridge that would hold our meals had our names notated to store our meals in.
Basically the idea is that there are separate stations for each meal. Each station has all of the ingredients and baggies for whatever dinner you have selected for the night. At the blogger event, the meatloaf station was the most popular but there was enough room for everyone else to mingle and snack while the station was in use. The Dream Dinners staff is close by to answer questions and there was an attendant to clean up between each person who is using the station.
Dinners are prices around $17-25 for 3 serving meals and 6 serving meals start at around $30 each with a minimum purchase of 36 servings. After reviewing a few menus, I found there to be a wide range of recipes. Although I don’t eat pork I was able to get a pork dish for my husband and then several chicken dishes for myself. I personally liked that there were meals that I would never tackle myself like the paella and soup.
At the end of the event the Dream Dinners team loaded all of the assembled meals into our cars!
- Recipes sometimes repeat but they track the rating on the website and repeats are only some of the top rated and most popular recipes.
- This is a plastic bag heavy process but if you want to bring your own container, they will sanitize it.
- The majority of meals are just the entrée and one side (usually a starch). While they do have vegetables are side these are usually an additional cost.
Making the Recipes
The Simmered Chinese Chicken with Jasmine rice was fairly simple to prepare. Since the sauce was already prepped at the Dream Dinners store, I just had to sauté the chicken and make the rice. The chicken was actually frozen so I thawed the dish in the fridge the day before. I think I would have prefer to brown the chicken first and then sauté in the sauce but it worked out fine. The jasmine rice was straightforward, boil the water and rice for 20 minutes and then fluff with a fork.
I thought this dish was tasty although I definitely would have cut the red pepper flake down. One problem is, since you aren’t taste testing while you prep the meals, you don’t exactly know which dishes will need more or less seasoning.
One more item we have tried was the cranberry/orange scones which were totally delicious and went from frozen to perfectly crumbly in 10 minutes!

Dream Dinners sponsored this post but as always, opinions are my own.
