We knew that by purchasing a larger house we’d host more holiday events, which is one of my favorite things to do. For us, holidays mean houseguests which means certain rooms need to be prepped to create a warm and welcoming environment. Our hall bathroom is the bathroom that gets a ton of use when we have visitors, so a small decor update was needed to make a more welcome environment for them. For me, a welcoming environment means lots of extra items that I think a guest will need and a calming almost spa like place to relax with a bath or shower.
Here are some before photos:
Remember this room? The floor was cracked, the countertops were original and the lighting was outdated.
Here’s is what it’s looked like for the last 6 months!
We started getting the bathroom holiday guest ready by installing Target Threshold shelves that I had saved for when we finally finished the bathroom. I chose the grey finish to coordinate with the gray in the cabinets. The cabinets are original to the house but we were able to salvage them after a good cleaning and a coat of SW Repose Grey. I love the rustic look of the shelves and I wanted to keep the decor simple so I placed a pretty magnolia print, unscented candle, extra Quilted Northern® Mega Rolls tissue and a cinnamon diffuser. Since fall has finally come to the Bay Area, I put up a small pumpkin to celebrate the changing of the seasons. I don’t think that holiday decor needs to always be bold and in your face, especially in the bathroom.
I placed a vintage looking bucket filled with Quilted Northern Mega Rolls near the cabinets just in case additional rolls are needed. Quilted Northern bath tissue rolls are essentially like 4 rolls in one so they last longer (notice how full they look on the roll), because no one wants to run out of bath tissue at the wrong time!
For the countertops we went with a new white quartz and new chrome fixtures. The tray is something I’ve had for years and the vintage hobnail jars hold extra cotton balls and cotton swabs for guests. A gray planter with succulents adds a pop of color on the countertop.
It’s important to have a stocked bathroom if you have guests that will be staying several days. I try to make sure that there are fresh towels and wash cloths in the cabinets and that there is extra bath tissue within reach!
I found Quilted Northern Mega Rolls on the endcap at Target. Because it’s on promo check your endcaps, if not head over to the bath tissue aisle where they should be displayed!
Decor Tips for a Holiday Ready Guest Bathroom
1. Deep clean the bathroom before decorating it. I wipe down all surfaces including the insides on the drawers in case they are dusty.
2. Add some artwork and greenery to create a calm atmosphere. Jars filled with toiletries make great pieces of decor and they provide a use!
3. Subtle holiday touches like small pumpkins or a cinnamon scented diffuser celebrate the Thanksgiving season.
4. Shelves provide storage for extra bath tissue and a display for artwork!
