Ready Player One: P and I listened to this during a recent road trip. I had heard of it but sci fi isn’t really my thing, so it took me a long time to make the commitment. Everyone was not wrong, this book is captivating and highly entertaining. You don’t really need to know much about computers to enjoy this novel, I’m definitely looking forward to the movie.
How I Live Now: I actually saw this movie on Netflix and went back to read the story. An American teenager arrives in England which is on the brink of WWIII. The book is her stream of thoughts and the narrative filled with run on sentences, but once I got past that, it’s a novel about love and keeping a promise to yourself and someone else. Highly recommend.
Underground Railroad: I usually can’t bring myself to watch or read brutal slave era stories but Colson Whitehead brings such a sense of urgency and suspense to Underground Railroad, that I was sucked in after reading the first few pages. An interesting escape, a tough heroine and some quirky secondary characters make this book a thrilling read.
After: Apocalyptic stories are my favorite and this book of short stories fits the bill perfectly. Some were too weird to enjoy but others were strangely haunting and I’m still thinking about the character’s months later.
