A few months ago I preached my happiness with Google Shopping Express but only one thing really bothered me- they didn’t deliver perishables. A few friends suggested that I try Instacart and since I’m super lazy I figured why not? I don’t have to deal with Costco and their ridiculous parking lot and someone else can deliver my goods right to my door. After a few orders, I’m ready to share my Instacart grocery delivery review!
Instacart.com offers grocery delivery (perishables!!) in several areas and recently added the San Francisco Bay Area to its roster. Instacart.com has a user-friendly interface and lets you search items for one of three stores in the Bay Area. They are Whole Foods, Costco and Nob Hill. I put in an order at Costco for organic fruit and then rounded out my order with some chicken and a few snacks at Whole Foods.
Checkout was fairly easy and one interesting thing is that they do not request your Costco membership for your order like Google Express does. So in theory, if you didn’t have a Costco membership but wanted to be able to order something, the Instacart shopper picks up your items for you. I’m not sure if this will change in the future or if it’s different in other regions but that is what I experienced here in the Bay Area.
About an hour before my order was set to be delivered I received two calls from both of my Instacart shoppers. One couldn’t find the brand of yogurt I wanted at Whole Foods and asked if I had any substitutions. Since I didn’t he told me that my final total would be slightly cheaper than what I saw when I originally checked out. 20 minutes later a different driver called me while in Costco and asked if it mattered what brands I had on my order. He found other organic fruit which was totally fine and he was able to fill my entire order.
Both orders came separately and the drivers knocked on the door to drop everything off. Although you can add a tip when you originally order, I opted to give cash at my door.
I was happy everything arrived safely and Instacart sent an order delivery confirmation with my final totals about an hour after everything arrived. I had a great experience and am looking forward to adding this to my grocery delivery rotation!
