3 Reasons To Watch The Nutcracker and the Four Realms This Christmas!

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is a 2018 fantasy adventure film inspired by the classic tale of The Nutcracker. The film follows a young girl named Clara who is transported to a magical world where she meets the Sugar Plum Fairy and must battle the evil Mother Ginger to save the realm of the Four Realms. The film features an all-star cast, including Keira Knightley, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, and Misty Copeland.

My children loved the movie and at an hour and forty minutes, it was just enough to keep their attention.  Here are three reasons to watch The Nutcracker and the Four Realms!

Costume Design

The costumes are spectacular in this movie!  They are glittery, intricate, and perfect for a magical fantasyland movie.  My favorite costumes are the clothing the flower realm characters wear and Clara’s gown during her introduction at the pageant.  Costume designer Jenny Beven recently gave an interview in which she said that she had over 100 seamstresses working on the film and they made about 1500 total costumes!

Diversity

Of all the reasons to watch The Nutcracker and the Four Realms the most important is diversity! One thing that jumped out immediately to me was how diverse the cast is.  Morgan Freeman plays Clara’s inventor godfather, Jayden Fowora-Knight plays Phillip- Clara’s guide throughout the realms. Even in the ballroom scenes, there are different shades of brown represented by several of the extras.

Misty Copeland Dancing

Misty Copeland is in the movie briefly but wait until the end credits when she dances for a longer period of time!  Her graceful movements plus the iconic Nutcracker music are pure enjoyment!
