Disneyland during Halloween is one of my favorite times to go!  In early October, the crowds are usually low and the park goes all out in fun and not too spooky-themed displays. Here are some tips for a great trip to Disneyland during Halloween!

Here are some tips to enjoying Disneyland during Halloween!

1. Halloween themed treats are a must!  We got popcorn in limited edition Halloween-themed buckets, candy corn cotton candy (it tastes exactly like regular the colors are different) and limited edition flavored beignets at the Mint Julep Cafe.

Protip: Order the 6 beignet bag but ask if they will split between regular and limited edition flavors.  Cast members will happily hand you two bags with three of each flavor! Everything was delicious and it’s fun to hunt down the snacks that wouldn’t be available during the regular season.

2.  Halloween villains are out and about for photos so take advantage when you see one!  We saw The Queen of Hearts roaming around two days in a row.  She shook her fists at people who stood in the way of the trolley and demanded others kiss her hand.  It was hysterical!

3.  Rancho del Zocalo has a Dia de Los Metros display outside of the restaurant.  It’s bright, colorful, and a great place to stop and take photos.

4. The Nightmare Before Christmas Haunted Mansion takeover is a must-see display!  The ride currently has a virtual queue that guests must access to access the ride.  On one trip while passing through the birthday party scene we smelled pumpkin pie in the air.  It was a great touch!

To access the virtual queue for Haunted Mansion at Disneyland, follow these steps:

  1. Check Availability: The virtual queue for Haunted Mansion is often used during peak times, especially for seasonal events like Halloween. Check Disneyland’s official app or website for information about whether a virtual queue is in place.
  2. Download the Disneyland App: Ensure you have the Disneyland app downloaded on your smartphone. It’s available for free on both iOS and Android.
  3. Log In: Open the Disneyland app and log in with your Disney account. Make sure your park tickets are linked to your account.
  4. Navigate to the Virtual Queue Section: Go to the “Join Virtual Queue” section of the app. This is usually found on the home screen or under the “My Plans” tab.
  5. Join the Queue: If the virtual queue is active, you will see an option to join. Follow the prompts to join the queue. You might need to select a party size and confirm your group details.
  6. Check Return Times: After joining the queue, you’ll receive an estimated return time. You can check your status and estimated wait time through the app.
  7. Return at Your Time: When it’s your time to ride, the app will notify you. Head to the Haunted Mansion entrance and check in with a Cast Member to redeem your virtual queue spot.

5. The pumpkin festival on Main Street is another photo opportunity located in the park.  Every year they have different carvings and pumpkin displays. We like wandering around looking at the displays before plopping down to save seats for the parade.
