DIY Dollar Store Mickey Mouse Cake Plates

Themed parties are my jam and if they are Disney themed, well that’s even better. I know that throwing themed parties can be expensive so I always try to look for crafts that I can get the supplies at a local dollar store. I always say that a great dessert table should have a ton of sweets plus some should be elevated on cake plates for a more fancy look and cohesive look. Here are the instructions for making fun DIY dollar store Mickey cake plates.

Supplies:

• 1 fat quarter or ¼ yard of cotton Mickey fabric
• 1 clear plate from the Dollar Store/Tree
• 1 candle stick from the Dollar Store/Tree
• Mod podge
• Foam brush
• 1 pair of fabric scissors  
• Spray paint for glass
• Glue gun

Instructions for DIY dollar store Mickey cake plates:

Step 1:  Using your foam brush, spread the mod podge onto the back of the plate.

Step 2: Smooth fabric over the plate. Make sure there are no bubbles. If you turn over the plate, you can see if there are any spots you missed with the mod podge. If there are any spots, lift fabric and add a bit more glue. Smooth over and allow to dry.

Step 3:  Cut the fabric around the plate.

Step 4:  Apply another coat of mod podge and allow to dry 24 hours. 

Step 5: Spray the candle stick with the paint. You may need to apply two coats. Allow to dry overnight. I experimented with a frosted glass look and then covered it in gold!

Step 6: Center and glue the painted candle stick to the underside of the plate.

Be sure to hand clean the plate after use.
