Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim Tips for Newbies

Have you ever been to an indoor water park? We were able to visit one of the newest Great Wolf Lodge locations in Anaheim, a few weeks ago.  I didn’t do much research and wanted to explore the hotel and waterpark to find the stuff that worked best for my family.  Not only did we have a great time but I was able to jot a few things down that will hopefully help other families!  Here are some some Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim Tips!

Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim Tips: Deals

I can’t craft a Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim tips article without discussing booking deals.  We booked through Expedia which I use regularly! Check out Expedia for Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim discounts!  We found that the Expedia rate was even cheaper than the media rate!

Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim Tips: Check in early!

Even if your room isn’t ready, you can still check in at 1:00 pm and use the facilities right away.  We came with our suits already on and a pool bag ready to go.  We were actually able to go directly to our room because it was ready but if it wasn’t we would have gone directly into the waterpark!

Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim Tips: Seating

Scope out where you want to sit immediately.  The first day we grabbed whatever chairs we could find because it was crowded!  The seats are clustered together in two main areas but there are also tables with chairs throughout the waterpark.

On the second day we managed to snag the one cabana that you don’t have to rent.  It has two lounge chairs and a table!  No reservations are needed for this particular cabana just get there early and throw your stuff down before anyone else does.  This cabana is located across from the pool that has the obstacle course.

Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim Tips: Passes

Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim offers kid passes for different activities at several different price points.  We didn’t find the additional passes for activities necessary.  To be honest, the kids had so much in the waterpark that they were exhausted by the end of the day and didn’t have the energy to do much else.

I had work call to take one afternoon so the kids went with their Dad to the arcade.  It was a fun way to spend an hour for them and afterward, they got a special ice cream treat.  They also participated in one of the dance parties in the common area.  The staff brought out hula hoops and the kids danced with them.   Other than that it was all waterpark action all day long.

Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim Tips: Food

The food at Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim is fairly expensive and during dinner time the waits for the various restaurants can be long.  We brought snacks but bringing them into the waterpark area was confusing.  The first person waved us through after checking our bags which had crackers and drinks.  The second day we were told that we couldn’t bring in any food.  We kept snacks like popcorn, cocoa, crackers and drinks in our room.  The room came with fridge so our food products were kept cold.

Because we didn’t have snacks the second day at the waterpark, we ended up spending quite a bit of time looking at the food options.  There is a food kiosk in the water park area that sells things like hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken tenders.  They also offer salads and hummus/pita plates which is what my kids wanted to eat everyday.  I had a chicken caesar from the rotisserie restaurant in the hotel.  Everything was fresh and delicious.

The outdoor area was closed off due to the rain but the outdoor bar/restaurant was open.  I got a delicious salad and P got a steak sandwich from this area.  Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim sells alcohol at several locations and their drinks were strong!

Other options for food or snacks were the Dippin’ Dots stand, a pizza restaurant and directly outside the waterpark area was an ice cream and pastry shop. If you aren’t interested in trying the food at Great Wolf there are several fast food restaurants near the hotel. Since Great Wolf Lodge Anaheim is close to Disneyland, there are lots of other food options in the area.
