Based on the Mo Willems books of the same name, Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed: The Rock Experience is a silly yet entirely entertaining movie about embracing being different and accepting others who are different. Read on for a spoiler-free review of Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed!
The screener was provided by Warner Brothers in exchange for an honest review of the film.
Wilbur (Jordan Fisher) is a member of a huge pack of naked moles that lives underground. One day he decides that he wants to get dressed and he does, donning pants, a shirt, and a fedora. The other moles in the Tunnel community are completely aghast that Wilbur has decided to be different.
Wilbur finds inspiration in being clothed but his fellow moles try to convince him to get undressed again. The other moles attempt to get Wilbur to change his mind about wearing clothes going as far as to show him heroic naked moles but Wilbur is pretty determined to stay naked.
The animation will remind viewers of some of the shows currently streaming like The Croods, and while the colors used aren’t bold, the muted animation fits well with the underground theme mole community of browns and taupes.
Set against a fun soundtrack Naked Mole Rate Gets Dressed: The Underground Rock Experience encourages children to accept people who are simply different and go against the norm of society. The silly music and jokes had my third-grader laughing and even I found myself humming along to the music. Both children and parents alike will enjoy this film, making it a great candidate for a family movie night.
Naked Mole Rate Gets Dressed: The Underground Rock Experience streams on HBO Max starting June 30, 2022.
