San Jose is home to some of the best tacos in California. With its large Mexican-American population, it’s no surprise that San Jose boasts countless excellent taco shops and restaurants. Four places in particular stand out for serving up supremely delicious tacos – Super Taqueria, Taqueria El Coral, La Victoria Taqueria, and Tacos El Compa. Read on for some of the very best tacos in San Jose California!

1. La Victoria Taqueria

No discussion of the best tacos in San Jose is complete without mentioning La Victoria Taqueria or affectionately known as “La Vic.” This local chain began in San Jose and is famous for their legendary orange sauce that packs a flavorful punch.

Their super al pastor tacos stand out with juicy pork cooked perfectly or try the super carnitas taco that is filled with meat, pico and avocado.. You also can’t go wrong with their breakfast burritos, stuffed full of plump eggs, bacon, rice, and their signature orange sauce. La Victoria is a great place for classic street tacos too.

La Victoria Taqueria has several locations around the South Bay Area but our favorite is the OG location adjacent to San Jose State University.  Parking is very limited so find a metered spot and get your great tacos to go.

2. Tacos El Compa

Another excellent option for tacos in San Jose is Tacos El Compa. This family-owned spot makes everything fresh daily and their tacos show off authentic Mexican flavors. Located in South San Jose, the staff serves up delicious food in a great spot.  South San Jose has many taquerias but our favorite for the best Mexican food in the area is Tacos El Compa,

Their carnitas tacos are stuffed with incredibly tender, crispy pork and they also have excellent lengua (beef tongue) and the best tortas around for more adventurous eaters. Tacos El Compa uses homemade corn tortillas and has a big focus on quality ingredients. It’s a small place but very popular for tacos and their great service makes Tacos El Compa a good choice for a sit-in meal.

There are several tables in Tacos El Compa and they have freshly made horchata and agua fracas to compliment your tacos.

Super Taqueria is also known for its delicious salsa bar with a great selection of salsas and fixings like onions, cilantro, and limes to customize your tacos. Their prices are very reasonable and it’s a great place for tacos any time of day.  Parking at this location is VERY LIMITED and they are a cash-only establishment.

Taqueria Eduardo’s menu features classic Mexican dishes like carne asada and carnitas tacos, quesadillas, tortas, nachos, and burritos. Our favorite is the crispy tacos that are loaded with meat and shredded cheese.  Pair that with rice and beans for an affordable meal. We should note that the salsas are really tasty.  There’s a great selection, but we particularly liked the green and orange sauce.

If baja fish tacos are your jam, then the breaded halibut taco at Dia De Pesca is your best choice. Large chunks of crispy halibut, covered with fresh cabbage and their tasty salsas.

Dia de Pesca/YELP

Dia De Pesca is a very clean place and one of the best places to experience happy hour.  Happy hour is Monday-Friday 2:00-5:00 pm. They typically offer guests a deal to buy one taco or alcoholic drink and get the second one at half-price! Parking’s a bit tight in their private lot, and it tends to get packed during busy times, so you might end up street parking. They’ve got seats inside and outside – the outdoor ones are mostly covered – making it a chill place to grab a bite.

Dia De Pesca is a cash-only spot, they do not take cards.
