Cupcake connoisseurs will find a small selection of cupcake shops in San Jose. The city’s cupcake scene has also risen over the years, with a select few bakeries crafting creative, mouthwatering cupcakes that entice both local residents and visitors. In this article, we dive into the best spots to get cupcakes in San Jose, from neighborhood gems like Frost Cupcake Factory to a delicious treat from SoCal’s favorite Susie Cakes.

1. Frost Cupcake Factory
Frost Cupcake Factory in the West San Jose area is one of the few cupcake bakeries in the city. Owner Andrea Hahn moved Frost from Campbell to San Jose after winning an episode of Food Network’s Cupcake Wars. This shop is known for whipping up the most delicious and seriously eye-catching cupcakes around. Frost Cupcake Factory always has a ton of flavors that’ll make your taste buds do a happy dance. We love how they pay attention to every little detail and use top-notch ingredients. It’s not just about the taste; their cupcakes are like tiny, edible works of art.
We tried some of their seasonal flavors like the carrot cake and pumpkin spice. The carrot cake base was moist and flavorful and the frosting was a cream cheese version that wasn’t overly sweet. They also had a burnt almond cake flavor in addition to a churro cupcake with a tiny churro on top and classics like lemon, red velvet, and vanilla. Because they take care to create new flavors, we consider this place selling the best cupcakes in San Jose.
The vibe in the shop is super friendly, making it a sweet spot to treat yourself. Keep an eye out for any seasonal or special flavors they might have – they love to mix things up and showcase new flavors. Single cupcakes are priced at $4.75 and a dozen cupcakes start at $51.
Note: Vegan/Dairy Free/Gluten Free cupcakes are available by special order with 48 hours notice. Must be ordered by the dozen per flavor.

Located in South San Jose, this cozy bakery fills with the scents of fresh-baked cakes and pastries throughout the day. C’est Si Bon Bakery focuses on cakes but they also have a limited selection of cupcakes. Flavors like strawberry milkshake, burnt almond, and chocolate ganache. Our favorites are the peanut butter and the chocolate ganache. The chocolate ganache has a really rich filling and the frosting isn’t overly sweet.
C’est Si Bon Bakery has very limited seating in the shop.

3. Susie Cakes
San Jose residents with a sweet tooth have fallen in love with Susie Cakes, a Los Angeles-based bakery that has perfected the art of old-fashioned, nostalgic sweet treats. Opened in late 2019 in the Willow Glen neighborhood, Susie Cakes San Jose serves beloved classics like layer cakes, cupcakes, custom cakes, brownies, cake pops and more. Everything they sell is made from scratch using time-honored recipes packed with flavor.
Their signature cake falls somewhere between classic white cake and yellow cake— delicate, light, and topped with decadent frosting. Susie Cakes’ mission is to help guests recapture happy memories with cakes that taste as good as grandma used to make.
Our favorite flavor of cupcakes is easily the lucious lemon flavor which is a vanilla cake filled with fresh lemon curd, frosted with vanilla buttercream. Their cupcakes are dense but moist, not too tart. They finish it with lemon sprinkles on top. Susie’s is famous for its southern red velvet cupcake which is a deep red, moist cake lightly flavored with cocoa, filled and topped with traditional cream cheese frosting. Susie Cakes version is delicious and the frosting is sweet and good.
The charming shop’s vintage aproned staff and baby blue decor transport you back in time when you walk through the door, getting you into that nostalgic mood for some birthday cake, carrot cake, or cookies worthy of a childhood celebration. Susie Cakes cupcakes run about $5 each and they can be found on DoorDash and Uber Eats for a cupcake delivery.
