1. Bibo’s NY Pizza

If you find yourself on the south side of town, make your way to Bibo’s NY Pizza for huge, foldable slices just like you’d find on the streets of New York. Their thin crust has a perfectly crisp exterior while maintaining a fluffy interior. Toppings like pepperoni get nicely caramelized from their hot brick ovens.

I like to grab a juicy Italian sandwich while I’m there too because you have to take advantage of that authentic NY deli counter in the back!

Address: 1431 Bird Ave San Jose, CA 95125

2. Slice of New York

Tucked away in a small strip mall on busy Stevens Creek Boulevard, Slice of New York offers classic New York-style pizza by the slice or whole pies to go. They top their pizzas with thin and crispy crusts with typical ingredients like mozzarella, parmesan, pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, peppers, and onions. In addition to pizza, they also offer wings, salads, and freshly baked rolls. With just a handful of tables inside, Slice of New York is best for picking up food to go.

They sell by the slice, which is pretty rare in San Jose. In the customary fashion of whatever’s on the counter, they’ll take a slice and warm it up. Slice of New York also sells calzones, cannoli, and cheesecake plus they also sell their dough for those who like to make their own pizza at home.

Parking can be tricky in their small lot, but you can usually find street parking nearby. If you want to enjoy your pizza on-site, get your food to go and make the quick walk over to nearby Pritchard Park which offers open grassy areas perfect for a picnic. For no-frills New York-style pizza in San Jose, Slice of New York hits the spot.

Address: 3443 Stevens Creek Blvd San Jose, CA 95117

3. Pizza My Heart

A local favorite for over 20 years, Pizza My Heart serves up good pizza with fun, surf-inspired vibes. This lively sit-down pizzeria is located in a strip mall on Blossom Hill Ave in South San Jose, just look for the maroon surfboard sign. Inside, vibrant murals and an arcade area make it perfect for families and kids. Pizza My Heart offers a full menu of pizzas like the classic pepperoni and cheese along with signature creations like the Pacific Beach piled high with bacon, pineapple and jalapeños.

We like that Pizza My Heart offers pizza by the entire pie and by the slice like Slice of New York that we discussed above.

Parking can get crowded on weekends, but you can usually find a spot in the large parking lot or on the side streets. In addition to pizza, Pizza My Heart also serves up wings, salads, sandwiches, pasta, and desserts like their famous dirt cups.

This place is perfect for birthday parties or just a fun casual night out.

Try the “High Five” which is homemade meatballs in a special marinara sauce topped with mozzarella cheese.  Meat lovers will love the “All Meat” which has pepperoni, ground beef, sausage, salami, and linguica.

If you are looking for deep-dish pizzas, then Paxti’s is the restaurant you are looking for.  Paxti’s Pizza is a well-known pizzeria with multiple locations in California, including San Jose. Paxti’s is known for its Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, a style characterized by a thick, buttery crust and layers of cheese and toppings.

We tried the “Special” which is all-natural garlic-fennel sausage, fresh mushrooms, green peppers & white onions.  This delicious pizza has a thick crust but a thin bottom and their pizza pies have layers of cheesy goodness. Paxti’s also encourages guests to try honey on their deep-dish pizza crusts for a savory and sweet treat!

Paxti’s also offers thin-crust pizza plus a variety of refreshing salads in addition to offering gluten-free options.

Try the “Joe’s Special” pizza with sausage, mushroom and mozzarella. The catch is the wait time at Pizza Bocca Lupo, if you’re ordering at the restaurant, be prepared for a bit of a delay since they don’t have slices or pies ready to go.

There is plenty of seating, both inside and out, with music and a couple of great bars as well.

8. Cicero’s Pizza

Ciciero’s Pizza is a popular, no-frills, homey, neighborhood pizza spot.  It’s very casual, with plenty of seating and most importantly a good pizza! This is not your fancy artisanal pizza with zero flour but it’s great all the same.  The crust is uniformly thin and has a nice crispness to it. The marinara sauce is delicious and the pies have the appropriate amount of cheese and fresh ingredients.

Try the “Baker’s Pride” which has tomato sauce, mushrooms, green bell peppers, Italian sausage, and onions.
