We spent spring break in Los Angeles, visiting Walt’s Barn and hunting for the best pie places. Yes, you read that right. My kids are huge fans of fruit pie so I thought it would be fun to explore a few pie shops while we were in the area. Here are my thoughts on the 5 best pie places in Los Angeles!

THE Best Pie Places in Los Angeles!

Winston Pies

The pies at Winston can be pricey but the fresh ingredients and bright bakery make it worth the price. Winston Pie serves pie slices, pie pockets and full size pies. Try the blueberry or the apple pie! Both have a delicious flaky crust and aren’t too sweet.

The Pie Hole

The Pie Hole has several locations and we ended up visiting the one in downtown Los Angeles. This location is often crowded so I’d recommend going during that sweet spot just after the lunch rush. We all shared a hearty beef pie and finished off with a lemon slice! The Pie Holes has a friendly staff but parking can certainly be a challenge since it’s in a heavily populated tourist area.

House of Pies Cafe

House of Pies is an old school coffee shop that serves dessert! The pies are the star with their unique flavors. Try the cream pie versions (strawberry or chocolate), they are creamy and just the right amount of sweetness.

Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken

Tucked away on Crenshaw is Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken and although it focuses on fried chicken, I couldn’t leave it off my list for the 5 best pie places in Los Angeles. The chicken is solid but the pies are the star. Gus’s offers several kinds of pie but stick with the pecan or chocolate chess pie for a unique flavor! The downside of this joint is the parking, thing to know here is that there is no parking by the restaurant itself. They also have a small parking lot but it is for those purchasing to-go only. For diners who dine in, you’ll need to find parking on the street.

The Apple Pan

The Apple Pan is a fun little diner that offers up comfort dishes and delicious pies. This diner been around sine the late 1940’s and the Apple Pan is tiny, there is only seating at the counter and they are constantly filled. The Apple Pan has a few different pie choices include Banana Cream, Chocolate Cream and the apple pie. The Banana Cream is hands down the most popular and features fresh bananas layered over a flaky crust. If you can manage the wait the a seat, this charming diner is definitely a place to visit.

So there you have it, the 5 best pie places in Los Angeles! Did I miss any? Leave a comment and tell me of a pie place that I have to try!
