On a recent visit to Hawaii, we wanted to book a luau for our girls, who had never experienced it. I did lots of research and ended up booking Mauka Warriors Luau, which was one of the highest-rated ones I read about. Mauka Warriors Luau was one of the highlights of our trip to Oahu. From start to finish, everything was exceptionally well organized, making it one of the best experiences of our vacation.

Purchasing tickets online was quick and easy, and check-in was seamless. We stayed at the Ko Olina Beach Villas, so we chose to drive the roughly 10 minutes to Kapolei instead of using the complimentary shuttle service offered from the Ko Olina resorts. I liked having our own car so we could leave whenever we wanted, but it’s nice to know the free transportation is available if you don’t want to drive.

Once we arrived, the Mauka Warriors staff efficiently organized everyone into separate greeting lines based on their package. We booked the Ali’i Experience, which includes reserved seating with an excellent view of the stage and a traditional kukui nut lei greeting. The kukui nut lei was once reserved for Hawaiian royalty, making it a interesting way to begin the evening. We also noticed guests receiving sea shell leis with the Classic Koa package and beautiful fresh flower leis with the Premium package.

Mauka Warriors offers three package levels. The Koa Experience ($139 per person) includes a shell lei greeting, cultural activities, and the full luau experience. The Ali’i Experience ($169 per person) upgrades your seating and includes the traditional kukui nut lei. For guests celebrating a special occasion or wanting the best seats available, the Premium Experience ($199 per person) offers the most exclusive experience.

Before dinner, we spent quite a bit of time exploring the cultural activities spread throughout the luau grounds. There was a temporary tattoo station (the longest line was this), coconut shredding, fire baton twirling demonstrations, flower lei bracelet making, a photo station, and the opportunity to watch the kalua pig being unearthed from the imu, the underground oven where it’s slow-cooked.

Local artisans were also selling handmade goods, jewelry, and snacks, including delicious pineapple hand pies.

One thing that really stood out about the Mauka Warriors Luau was how friendly everyone was. Every staff member we interacted with—from the artisans and bartenders to the musicians and performers—was welcoming and genuinely happy to answer questions or chat with guests. It created a relaxed atmosphere that felt authentic rather than overly scripted.

The buffet featured an impressive variety of Hawaiian and Polynesian dishes, with plenty of options for both adventurous eaters and those looking for familiar favorites. Everything remained well stocked throughout the show.

The kalua pork was incredibly tender and full of smoky flavor, while the fresh fruit, poi rolls, and creamy macaroni and cheese were all excellent. My personal favorites were the baked chicken, rice, and kalua pork. Buffet meals can sometimes be hit or miss, but I was genuinely impressed with the quality of the food here.

As good as the food was, the show was the real highlight.

The performances were energetic, beautifully choreographed, and did an excellent job sharing Polynesian history and culture through music, dance, and storytelling. The warriors displayed incredible athleticism throughout the evening, and every performance kept the audience engaged. The fire knife dancing at the finale was absolutely amazing and had the entire crowd cheering.

If you’re trying to decide which luau to book on Oahu, Mauka Warriors deserves to be at the top of your list. Between the welcoming staff, engaging cultural activities, delicious buffet, and unforgettable performances, it offers an experience that feels well worth the price. It was one of the most memorable evenings of our trip and one I’d happily recommend to anyone visiting Oahu.
