Everything to Know About the Kapalua Golf Villas

Kapalua Golf Villas Location

The Kapalua Golf Villas are located right on the greens of the Kapalua golf course. The resort area is located 10 minutes north of Ka’anapali, about 20 – 30 min north of Lahaina, and about one hour from the Kahului Airport (OGG.) That being said, the location is a bit removed from other more touristy areas and feels more secluded.

The Kapalua Golf Villas are technically across the street from the beach but I should say, it’s an uphill walk. The trek down to the beach may seem daunting – but it’s actually really easy and relaxing. We did morning walks every day and it took about 10 minutes to Napili or Kapalua Bay.

If you don’t want to walk you can call the FREE SHUTTLE to drop off and pick up at the local beaches.

Kapalua Gold Villas Booking & Rental Experience

We stayed in a 2 bedroom 2 bath unit in Building 17. Each condo is individually owned so your experience is based on if the owner keeps the appliances working and updated. Our unit was clean, however, the kitchen was filled with sugar ants and they never went away no matter how clean we kept the countertops. We kept almost all our groceries in the fridge including the bread because it just wasn’t safe in the cabinets or on the countertop. That was pretty frustrating.

Our view of the master bedroom and living areas was gorgeous. We looked out upon the golf course and had a limited view of the water, making it a perfect view while out on the lanai. Our unit had two comfortable loungers on the lanai and a table that seated four people.

We were in a middle unit and every movement our upstairs neighbor made sounded like they were going to come crashing through the ceiling at any minute. I highly recommend renting a top-floor unit because soundproofing doesn’t exist in these buildings.

Don’t be scared off by being on a golf course. It’s so far out of the way in Maui that it’s not a course that people drive out specifically for. At most, we saw 6-8 golfers each day on the course.

Our particular Kapalua Golf Villas unit had a lanai closet that had plenty of beach-related gear you can borrow. There were 2-3 Beach chairs (with backpack straps for easy traveling).  There was a small cooler, sand toys for the kids (at least 2 sets), and pool floats with a pump to fill them!

Parking wasn’t an issue as each unit has specific parking. Just make sure you keep your parking pass (provided by the rental company) visible in your car when parked.

Staying at the Kapalua Golf Villas also had the added benefit of being able to park near the tennis court area for convenient access to Kapalua Bay beach for snorkeling. The other options are fighting for limited street parking or paying $15 to park at the lot.

Kapalua Golf Villas Pool Area

The Kapalua Golf Villas have several pools on site. The one from across our unit POOL #1 had a large comfortable bbq area with tables and 10 loungers. The pools were cleaned and furniture arranged every morning and the entire time we were there, we were one of a handful of guests. POOL #1 also had bathrooms that needed more attention.

It’s important to note that the pools do not have hot tubs. The resort does not have a gym.

Kapalua Golf Villas Area and Beyond

If cooking at home is your thing, there is a deli and grocery store on the property. The Honolua Store is basically a smaller ABC store. The Honolua Store sells clothing, souvenirs, snacks and hot plates.

If you want to do major grocery shopping, there are several options not far from the Kapalua Golf Villas. Napili Market and Times Supermarket offer groceries, hot plates, and fresh poke.

The Kapalua Coastal Trail is within walking distance of the Kapalua Golf Villas.  One end of the Coastal Trail starts at Kapalua Beach and is a good hike to various beaches including Dragon’s Teeth rock maze.  Wear a good pair of shoes because some of the hikes to the tidepools are over rough lava rock.

So is staying at the Kapalua Golf Villas worth it? For a more secluded and slower pace on Maui, yes! It’s located near snorkeling spots and is a comfortable stay, especially for families or larger groups.
